Stained Glass Pattern Tool: Frequently Asked Questions
Is this stained glass tool free?
Yes. You can use it without an account and without buying anything.
Can I upload my own SVG or PNG?
Yes. SVG, PNG, and JPG files are supported. SVG files work best when every glass piece is its own closed shape. PNG and JPG patterns need dark outlines on a light background.
Why does my SVG show no glass pieces?
The tool turns closed shapes (closed paths, polygons, rectangles, circles, and ellipses) into pieces. If your lines are open or drawn only as strokes, use Detect from outlines, or close the shapes in your drawing program and upload the file again.
Can I change individual glass colors?
Yes. Select one or more pieces and choose a color, a glass type, and a texture. You can also paint pieces one at a time or copy a piece's look with the eyedropper.
Which glass types can I preview?
Opaque, cathedral, opalescent, streaky, wispy, hammered, rippled, seedy, waterglass, and artique. The textures are a visual preview and do not replace a sample of the real glass.
Can I resize a stained glass pattern in inches or centimeters?
Yes. Switch between centimeters and inches and enter a width or height. The proportions stay locked. The finished design has to fit on the selected paper size.
Can I arrange individual pieces on A4 or US Letter paper?
Yes. Choose A5, A4, A3, or US Letter in portrait or landscape, then open Cut-out pieces. Pieces are packed automatically, and you can drag and rotate them.
Can I export a printable PDF?
Yes. You can download a PDF of the cut-out sheets or of the whole design. Each page has the exact paper size.
How do I print a pattern at its intended physical size?
Open the PDF, choose Print, set the scale to 100% or Actual size, and set margins to None. Then measure the 5 cm bar on a cut-out sheet with a ruler to confirm the scale.
Does the tool upload my files to a server?
No. Your pattern is read and processed in your browser and is never uploaded. The page uses no advertising or external fonts.
Does the PNG export have a watermark?
Yes. PNG exports carry a large diagonal EraGlassArt watermark. The SVG and PDF exports do not.
Can I use the SVG export with a cutting machine such as a Cricut?
The SVG export contains flat pieces with one layer per color at the real size, which is the kind of file cutting machines commonly import. It has not been tested with every machine, so check the size after importing.
