Export a Stained Glass Pattern as SVG for Cutting Machines
A clean, flat SVG of your colored pattern for Cricut and other cutting machines.
What the SVG contains
Cutting machines work with flat shapes. The SVG export gives you exactly that:
- Every glass piece as a flat shape with a solid fill.
- One layer per glass color, named after the color (for example
glass-c0392b). - The size of the design you set, saved in inches.
- No textures, blur, or filters, and no watermark.
- Optional: the lead lines as a separate layer.
How to export
- Open the pattern tool, load your pattern, and set the final size (see how to resize a pattern).
- Color the pieces. Pieces with the same color end up on the same layer.
- Under Export & print, choose Export SVG for cutting.
- Tick Lead lines only if you want them in the file. They are saved as strokes, which some programs treat differently from cut shapes.
- Import the file into your cutting software.
Check the size after importing. Programs read units differently, and the exported file has not been tested with every machine. Resize the imported design to the dimensions shown in the tool if they differ.
Tips
- The pieces have the exact shapes from your pattern. The export does not add a gap for lead or copper foil, so add your own allowance in your software if you need one.
- Use this file for flat materials such as paper, vinyl, or templates. It is not a way to cut glass.
- Delete any empty areas detected as glass before you export, using Delete piece.
